Every once in awhile you read a book that you just can’t put down.  I call these “just one more chapter” books because I always say I’m going to read until the end of the chapter, and then put it down and go do something else (sleep, eat, go to work – the other necessities in life besides reading!)

Then I find a book that I just can’t put down.  I come to the end of the chapter, and the writer has skillfully put a plot twist or teaser that makes me start the next chapter, then the next….or the content is so emotionally moving that I just can’t separate myself from the story.

Have you ever read a book that you just can’t put down?  Ever look at the clock and realize it’s 2:00 a.m. and you know you should have put the book down hours ago – but couldn’t?  I’ve had books like that – just to name a few:

As a child:
Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls
Wilder
Henry Huggins by Beverly Cleary
Are you there God?
It’s me, Margaret by Judy Blume
The story of Helen Keller by Lorena A. Hickok

As a more mature reader:
Roots by Alex Haley
New Moon by Stephenie Meyer
Harry Potter 1, 2, & 3 by J.K. Rowling
Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom
The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown
To kill a mockingbird – Harper Lee

A quick poll at Book Buddies revealed these favorites of our staff:
A place to stand by Jimmy Santiago Baca
Event by David Golemon
Harry Potter 7 by J.K. Rowling
Jack & Jill by James Patterson
Wild Steps of Heaven by Victor Villasenor
Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver

So what is your favorite?  Who is the best author for writing real page turners? James Patterson, Anne Rice, Dean Koontz, Stephen King, Patricia Cornwell, Sue Grafton?
