Lizzy – 5th grade
Lizzy liked the book “Listen” by Stephanie Tolan.
This story is about a 12 year old girl named Charley. Her mother recently died and Charley is also recovering from a car accident where she injured her leg. Charley finds a stray dog she names Coyote and sets out to tame him. Together, she and Coyote attempt to heal their physical and emotional pain. Lizzy enjoyed the bond between the girl and the dog and recommends this book to both boys & girls grades 4-8
Lydia – 5th Grade
Lydia read and shared about “The Fledgling” written by Jane Langton.
If you ever wished you could fly – this is a book you want to read. Georgie has this wish come true when a Canadian goose lands on her roof one night and offers to teach her. (Without telling you any more to give away the plot)
Sarah – 5th Grade
Sarah is a Judy Blume fan and told us about one of her favorite books – Fudge-a-mania.
This is the 4th book in the series of “Fudge” books (which include Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, Otherwise Known as Shelia the Great, Superfudge, and Double Fudge) In this book, Fudge (a little 5 year old boy whose name is really Farley) and his older brother Peter go with their family to Maine. Fudge decides to “marry” Shelia – a girl that his brother can’t stand! How will they survive the summer? Who really gets married at the end of the book? Read and found out.
Naba – 5th Grade
Naba told us about the book “My Teacher Fried My Brains” by Bruce Coville.
Bruce Coville has written 90 children’s books – including the Space Brat series, The Unicorn Chronicles, and Magic Shop Books. “My Teacher Fried My Brains” is the 2nd book in the series, with “My Teacher is an Alien” being the first. Here is an excerpt: “The first day of seventh grade was probably the worst day of Duncan Dougal’s life. He knows that things are really bad when he finds an alien’s hand in a dumpster and then gets plugged into an alien brain fryer! Can Duncan find out which of the four new teachers in his school is an alien before his brains get fried to a pulp—or before the aliens try to fry the whole planet?”
Thanks Naba for sharing your enthusiasm for this book! Bruce Coville sure writes to thrill! |
