The Book Club Blog

The Book Club is a place where kids can share what they are reading.  Let us know why you would recommend (or not recommend) a book to other kids! 

William – 5^th grade

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (Book One) by J. K. Rowling is a book I would recommend for any age.  I like this book because it is the start of a great series.

Brian – 5^th grade

I love the book “Garfield Loses his feet” because it is funny.

Abi – 5^th grade

My book was “Wings” This is a really good book if you like fairytales.  Wings is about a half-human, half-fairy named Tamison, who lives in a normal world.  Until a half-goblin boy named Jak comes and takes her to a magical world where her mother lives as the Queen fairy.  Find out what happens when war breaks out between the fairies and the goblins!

Nicholas -  5^th Grade

I read “Little House on the Prairie” by Laura Ingalls Wilder.  I like this book because it talks about how they experienced living back then (1800’s) and I would suggest this book for kids of all ages.

Audrey – 5^th Grade

I liked the book “Madusa Jones” by Ross Collins.  I liked this book because it’s interesting, and at the end it has a little action.  I recommend it to kids that are about 7-12 years old.  It makes the perfect gift to give to kids.

Shivam – 5^th Grade

I love the book “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone a lot!!  If you ever read the first 30 pages it’s boring, but after the first 30 pages you will see how Harry Potter, the famous wizard takes an adventure to Hogwarts School for Witches and Wizards, and meets friends and rivals on his journey to defeat the Dark Lord, Voldemort.  I recommend this book to kids ages 10-12. I’m 100% sure you’ll love it!

Gavin – 5^th Grade

The book I read, “Pillage” by Obert Skye is a pretty good book, but I didn’t really like some of the book because it doesn’t really give a lot of adventure, and the title doesn’t really describe what the book is about.

Andrew – 5^th Grade

The BFG by Roald Dahl – I liked this book because it is funny and easy to read.  It’s about a giant who snatches a girl but luckily the giant was the BFG, a friendly giant who never eats people.  In this story eight other giants were going to eat the Queen of England.  The BFG and the little girl have to convince the Queen and also save the country of England!

Clay – 5^th Grade

“The Battle of the Labyrinth” by Rick Riordan was the book I read.  Percy Jackson is going to a difficult maze called the Labyrinth to save his camp.  He will need all the help he can get to stop Kronos’s army, but first he must find the person who created the maze so he can get directions.  This book is really funny for kids and thrilling.

Bill – 5^th Grade

I read “The Lightning Thief” by Rick Riordan.  Somebody stole Zeus’s master lightning bolt and Percy Jackson is framed.  He must go on a quest to clear his name and return Zeus’s master lightning bolt before time runs out.  This is a great book and I would definitely recommend this book to kids ages 9-12.

Arianna – 5^th Grade

“Emily Windsnap and the Monster from the Deep” by Liz Kessler

I loved this book!  It is about a girl who woke up a monster in its cave and it was loose!

They had to find the monster and put it back in its cave!  This is a book for ages 8-12.  I hope others will enjoy this book too!

I also love the book “Green Eggs and Ham” by Dr. Seuss.  This is a book for all ages.  This book is funny and it sends out a message.  The message is, “Don’t judge a book by its cover” or in other words – don’t judge until you try it.  This is why kids and adults should read this book.

Kiana – 5^th Grade

I recommend the book “The Lightning Thief” by Rick Riordan.  This book is both fit for girls and boys ages 10-12.  This is a story about a boy named Percy Jackson that discovered that his father was a demigod, because his father is Poseidon.

I also liked “The Underneath” by Kathi Appelt.  What I liked about this book was that it was cute, but also serious book.  This book is about a cat, a pair of kittens, and a hound.

Eric – 5^th Grade

I liked “Harry Potter” by J. K Rowling because I can read for hours. I also really like “The Lightning Thief” by Rick Riordan because it is cool.  It has a lot of pages in it.

I like the book “Hi Fly Guy” This book is about a boy that got a fly. I like the book because it if fun.  I would recommend this book to a friend because it is nice.

I read the book “Reptiles” by Sarah O’Neil.  This book is about animal skins.  I like this book because there are some animals.  I would recommend this book to a friend because maybe they like animals.

My book is Six Crows by Leo Lionni.  This book is about six crows.  I like the crows because they eat a lot of corn.  I like the book because it is fun.  I would recommend this to a friend because it is fun.

Evelyn

This book, George Washington by Garnet Jackson is about a boy that was our first President.  I liked the book because it was a boy and smart kid.  I would recommend this book to a friend, because I loved the book of George Washington.

Tyrell

The book a read was “A dog called Bear”.  This book is about a dog that got ran over.  I like the book because the boy took the dog to school.  I would recommend this book to a friend because it’s tight.

Stephanie

My book is “A blue penguin” by Virginia Arnold.  This book is about a Penguin and a whale.  I liked this book because it was about animals.  I would recommend this book because they can know about animals.

Lania

“X-Rays” by Cheryl Jakab is the book I read.  This book is about a machine called an X-Ray.  I liked the book because it is full of science and is teaching me about X-Rays. I recommended this book to a friend named David.

Ashley

This book, “The Fox and the Crow” is about a fox and a crow.  I like the book because the fox is trying to get the crow.  I would recommend this book to a friend because it has a funny story.

Branden

I read “Busy as a Bee” by Melvin Berger.  This book is about lots of bees.  I liked the book because it is cool.  I would recommend this book to a friend because it is fun to learn about bees.

Kayla

My book is “The Girls in the Circle” by Nikki Giovanni.  This book is about 3 girls dressing up.  I liked the book because they dress so funny.  I would recommend this book to a friend because they will like it.

Mark

The book I read was “Miss Nelson has a Field Day”.  This book is about a little boy playing football.  I like the book because it makes me happy.  I would recommend this book to a friend, and because I want my Mom to read it.

Myia

The book I read was “Rose and Flo” by Judy Mayer. This is about two tall girls one likes noises and one likes the quiet.  I like this book because it is smart.  I would recommend this book to a friend because it is about friends.

Mitzy

“Me on the Map” by Joan Sweeney is the book I read.  This book is about a little girl who writes maps of her house, state, street and city.  I like the book because it has pretty pictures.  I would recommend this book to a friend because I know they would read with me.

I read the book “The Market” by Marilyn Jager Adams.  This book is about this man who wants to sell things.  I like the book because he likes to sell things.  I would recommend this book to a friend because it is funny.

“The Salamander Room” is my book.  This is a book about a Salamander and a boy that found him.  I like this book because I like salamanders.  I would recommend this book to a friend because it is cool.

My book is “Bad Boys” by Margie Paatini.  This book is about two wolves that are bad.  I liked the book because it has a lot of kids and action.  I would recommend this book to a friend because I think they would really like it because it is a fun cool book.
