The Book Club is a place where kids can share what they are reading.
Abi – 5th grade
The book I read was “11 birthdays” It is a great book! It’s about a girl and a boy whose birthdays are on the same day. They spent every birthday together, but one year they didn’t and something goes wrong! I recommend this book for fifth graders. 11 Birthdays is really funny, and has a little mystery in it. So if you like fun books – READ IT!
Brian – 5th Grade
I liked Naruto books – because they tell about courage, bravery, and skill. It is about a boy called Naruto and he was a kid and one day a man said, “You will fight to protect the land” and he did. That is why I like this book because it tells you to not give up.
I also liked “Avator, The Last Airbender” Avatar was a boy who was to defeat the fire nation – he has to master all four elements – the fire nation was to destroy the whole nation – will Avatar save all the nations?
“Yu-gi-oh” books are fun because it is fantasy, action, and adventure. I think every boy should read these books because it is lots of fun and it makes you want to read more.
“Lilo and Stitch” (Comic Zone) by Michael Stewart is a great book. It is funny and interesting. Lilo was a girl that lives in Hawaii. She has a pet dog that she doesn’t know if an alien. Will she know? Read and find out.
A Classic book to read is “Tom Sawyer” by Mark Twain. I liked Tom Sawyer because it has adventure, courage, and fun. Tom Sawyer was being a bad boy by skipping school a lot but one day Tom had a problem with an old man named Muff Potter, who was accused of being a murder – will Tom be able to save him?
I liked the book, “Pokémon Ultimate Handbook” because Pokémon are just like your pets, you collect them, and the Pokémon book is better than collecting Pokémon cards, because it tells you all the cards and that is why it is better to read the book that to collect them.
The book “Pirates of the Caribbean – Dead Man’s Chest – Comic Book” I really liked, because I already saw the movie so I know everything that was in the book. When you read this book you will see it is just like to movie, so you should read this book!
I also liked the book, “The Fantastic Transportation Machines” by Chris Oxlade. I liked it because you can see people flying on airplanes, so read this book if you want to fly!
I didn’t really like the book “Captain Underpants”, because the book has some disgusting things in it, they bully people and are rude, so be careful when you read this book, because I think this book is bad.
Kellen – 5th grade - Harry Potter Books!
“Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” is the first great J.K. Rowling book in this series. I liked this book because there are many events that happen like how Harry’s Mother and Father died but Harry didn’t. There is a very unusual sport that Harry liked to play, and it is called Quidditch. Harry is a seeker and tries to catch the snitch. The snitch is very small and is worth 150 points and if you catch it, you win the game. Well, I’ll stop and you read!
“Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” (book 2)
I liked because it is like a mystery book and they try and find out what the Chamber of Secrets is. When he is about to go to Hogwarts School, Harry gets a message from a strange creature. This creature wants Harry to stay with the Dursleys because something bad is going to happen. This creature was right and something strange does happen. Someone is turning people to stone. Many people think that Harry is going it. Could it be Harry? I think this book is perfect for 5th graders and up.
“Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” is book 3. I liked this book because someone is hiding a secret. Who is it? This book is about a prisoner in Azkaban named Sirius Black. He went to Azkaban because he killed 13 people in one curse. Sirius Black escaped and there are two weird clues where he might be. He could be where Harry’s defeat of you-know-who and the dementors heard him talking in his sleep saying, “He’s at Hogwarts…..He’s at Hogwarts” Read the book to know what happens.
I liked the book “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” by J.K. Rowling. I liked the book a lot because of the crazy tasks that Harry has to do. When Harry gets picked out of the goblet of fire, people wonder how he got past the age line, even himself. Now Harry has to finish 3 tasks and can get killed very easily. There might even be a faker or a person who is someone else. There is even a new teacher. In this book you will learn the three unforgivable curses. I think 6th grade kids should read it because it can be very long.
I loved the book “Eragon” by Christopher Paolini. This book grabs your attention. It is very descriptive. I loved this book because it paints a picture in your head and you know exactly what they mean. This book is kind of violent so kids under eight should not read it. More adults than kids will like this book. The main reason why I like this book is because it is a book about dragons. If you have seen the movie, you will know a lot about the book. Christopher Paolini is a great author and I love most of his books. I know you will like it.
Lydia – 5th Grade
One of my favorite books is “Chicken Soup for the Girl’s Soul” The cover states, “Real stories by real girls about real stuff” They are heart warming stories about troubles girls face. Any girls would love to read it, but ages 10-12 would be best.
“Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover’s Soul” is heartwarming stories about canines. The stories are true and some are sad. There is compassion, comedy, and Courage. Some dogs save lives.
Another great book is “High Hurdles” by Lauraine Snelling. It’s about a girl who has the determination to be an Olympic horse rider. Nobody supports her except for her friends and grandmother. Will she be able to achieve her dreams? Ages 10-12
“39 Clues – The Maze of Bones” by Rick Riodran has suspense in it, there is a big clue hunt. Anyone would love this book. A boy and girl go out on a deathly hunt for 39 clues that are hidden across the globe. The two orphans soon discover they are one of the most powerful families in the world. Loved the book. Love it!!!
Another great suspenseful book is “Tunnels” by Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams. I loved it because it had so much suspense. Sometimes it was sad, sometimes it was happy, and it was both funny and scary. Anyone who likes archaeologist stuff (digging up stuff) would love to read this series. I would recommend this book for ages 8 and up.
“Matilda” by Roald Dahl is a book I liked a lot. Matilda is a girl who is poor and her parents treat her badly. She has secret powers. She looks up to her teacher because she is the one who encourages her.
I really loved the book, “A Corner of the Universe” by Ann M. Martin, but you have to be aware that it’s sad at the end. This book is about a girl named Harriet (Hattie) who finds out she is has another Uncle. They live in a boarding house. They have great adventures together though Hattie’s Uncle has mental problems. Along the way, they make new friends, but you’ll have to read it to find out what happens to Hattie’s uncle. I recommend this book for kids 8 years old and up.
Shivam – 5th Grade
The book I read was “The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood” by Howard Pyle.
I loved this book a lot because this has a huge amount of action. If you’re looking for a book that has action and suspense, take my word – read it!
So, Robin Hood is one of the best archers known to man. Unfortunately, he cannot have the fame he wants because the Sheriff of Nottingham is trying to track him down. But why? Because, if Robin is revealed, his true identity in public – he will get fame, money, and the woman of his life. The Sheriff doesn’t want Robin to achieve this goal, because of his jealously. So, as the Sheriff tries to track down Robin Hood, Robin faces hardships and meets friends on his journey to stay away from the Sheriff.
Another great book I read was “The Three Musketeers” by Alexandre Dumas. The Three Musketeers wasn’t only a good book because it was an action book – it was an addicting action book! I mean, have you ever read an addicting action book?!
Well, if you haven’t – this has to be your first book in mind. The Three Musketeers have to be renamed when a young gascon, D’Artagnan, joins their group of adventurers. Now, the Four Musketeers are on their journey to save the Queen from the evil schemes of Cardinal Richelieu and his murderous spies.
I recommend this book to children ages 8-12.
I really liked “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” by J.K. Rowling. Harry is at his fourth year at Hogwarts School and it is his deadliest year. Harry Potter’s school is hosting a legendary event, the Triwizard Tournament. This tournament will have 3 schools competing with each other and only one champion. Dark times lie ahead because the three schools will do anything to stop Harry from winning. Also, Voldemort has reawakened and Harry has to duel this unmerciful Lord. Will Harry be able to escape Voldemort and be the Triwizard Champion, or no?
If you read these books your vocabulary will improve enormously. This book has suspense and if you get this book and never read it you will regret it. This is the best book out of the 7 Harry Potter books. You should read the first, second, and third Harry Potter book, and then start this book (the fourth book)
And if someone asks you, “What’s your favorite Harry Potter book?” You’re going to blurt out “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire!” Read the books and you’ll see for yourself. |
