bradyEvery generation has its teenage heartthrobs – the boys that make the girls swoon.  Rudolph Valentino, Clark Gable, Frank Sinatra, Elvis – but having been born at the very end of the Baby Boomer era – our guys were David Cassidy, Donny Osmond, Barry Williams of the Brady Bunch, and Bobby Sherman.

My greatest ambition in 1970 at the age of nine was to run away from home and join the Partridge Family.  I was sure I could play a tambourine better than Tracey.

My other option was to become the 7th member of the Brady Bunch.  I had a huge crush on Christopher Knight, who played Peter.  We shared a birthday of November 7th – so wasn’t it fate that someday we would get married?

I also swooned over Bobby Sherman, watching him on TV on “Here Come the Brides” in 1970.  I owned all of his albums and had his cassidyposters on my wall.  Ditto for Donny Osmond.

Eventually I grew out of my crushes – as I grew up – but that doesn’t mean that I don’t remember them fondly – and I am always looking for books that take me back to those days.  Here are some of my favorites that you might like to check out:

Bobby Sherman – “Still Remembering You”

“The Partridge Family Album” by Joey Green

partridge“Growing Up Brady” by Barry Williams

“Life Is Just What You Make It: My Story So Far” by Donny Osmond

And “C’mon, Get Happy: Fear and Loathing on the Partridge Family Bus” by David Cassidy.

blogdummiesWhile strolling through our local bookstore last weekend, I was stopped short in my tracks by a book, “Teaching Kids To Read For Dummies”

While I know that learning to read can sometimes be a challenge to kids, I had not idea they had written a book about it.

In fact, I was shocked at how many books there were for “Dummies” out there.  After going through the entire “Dummy” section – and after some on-line research, I am convinced that there is a book about every topic you could possible think of.

Here is a small list of some of the books out there for us “Dummies”readdummies

Ebay for Dummies, Growing Vegetable gardens, how to play bridge, puppies, Buddhism, crocheting, solar power homes, football, bartending, running a restaurant, wedding planning, how to play the harmonica, home brewing, divorce, etiquette, golf, welding, sushi, hedge funds, Latin, Feng Shui, RV vacations, how to fix everything, personal finance, yoga, facebook, raising chickens, The Bible, wine, piano, sewing, twitter, grant writing, auto repair, living gluten free, and bee keeping.

I guess I have a lot of reading to do – but for now I’ll start with this one……

Happy Reading
