I am in Orlando and today my Mother and I took her golf cart and went sight seeing in her retirement community.  As we passed the golf course, I saw an alligator in the pond lift its head and then dive back under the water.  Now - this is not a sight you often see where I live, in Southern California.  We did, for a time, have a very famous alligator in L.A. - "Reggie" that lived in a lake until he was captured, and he is now a resident of the Los Angeles Zoo.
Last year I met a wonderful author, Angi Ma Wong, who wrote about this famous alligator in her children's book, "Reggie".  She graciously autographed and donated several copies to us at Book Buddies, and that has been my extent of interaction with alligators, until today.  In the future, I think I will continue to admire alligators from afar - and just enjoy reading about them!
Happy Reading!

Whenever I meet children I love to ask them what they are reading.  Yesterday I was flying from Los Angeles to Orlando and had a delightful 7 year old girl named Abby sitting next to me on the plane.  Her brother and Mom were sitting across the aisle.  Abby was clutching a "Magic Tree House" book and we started talking about the book series and the author, Mary Pope Osborne.  I am a big fan of the books so I was able to keep up with Abby's knowledge of the different titles.

Just then, the plane hit some major turbulence.  Normally I am a very nervous flyer - but Abby and I pretended we were in the Magic Tree House.  We then decided we were in the book "High Tide in Hawaii" Magic Tree House #28 and the bumping of the plane was us riding surf boards.  Then we decided that the Magic Tree House was going to take us to book #9 - "Dolphins at Day Break" and the bumping of the plane was us riding the dolphins through the surf. We also visited Book #23 - "Twister on a Tuesday" and we were whirrling around in a tornado.

Thanks to lots of creativity, a "Magical" books series, and a sweet little girl, the 15 minutes of turbulence flew by, and we landed safely on the ground - and Abby promised to read my blog and write to me - so thank you Abby!

Happy Reading!
